Samsung Electronics has officially announced its new Android smartphone – Samsung Gem SCH-i100 mobile device, which combines stunning bar-style design and running on Android 2.1 Eclair OS.

We’ve previously seen the device bearing Verizon’s logo, so the carrier will probably launch it sometime soon.
Apart from the 1-year old version of Android, the Gem also comes with a 3.2 WQVGA touchscreen display, Swype virtual keyboard, social networking integration (via Samsung Hub), MicroSD card support, 3.2MP photo camera, and an 800MHz processor.
